Ensuring a safe, legal,
and ethical workplace

Poplar Farm Flowers has always been concerned with producing flowers with as little environmental impact as possible.

Wood boilers using wood pellets produced from sustainable and renewable forests have replaced oil as the primary energy source for heating glasshouses. All our tulips are grown hydroponically as we harvest roof water from all our buildings and recycle and reuse as much as possible.

Although a small quantity of peat is still used for other crops, we recycle all our compost. Recent trials with coir as a growing substrate gain us a significant step forward in our quest to be 100% peat free.

We are committed to doing business the right way, so we are regularly assessed against a number of industry standards in order to make sure we are continuously improving. Both our nursery and packhouse have been audited against the OHAS (Ornamental Horticulture Assurance Scheme, formerly known as BOPP – British Ornamental Plant Producers) standards since 2004.

Poplar Farm Flowers also uses the SEDEX platform to exchange information and best practice, especially concerning our staff, using the Ethical Trading Initiative to guarantee to our customers that our staff are employed in a safe, legal, and ethical manner with their welfare being our highest priority.
